TMG Dual Truss Shelters: PVC 900 Fabric Passes Fire Safety Testing

TMG Industrial is pleased to announce an important material-performance milestone for our Dual Truss Shelter lineup.

Our heaviest PVC 900 fabric, used on selected Heavy Series™ and Snow Series shelters, has successfully passed NFPA 701 flame-propagation testing conducted by Element Laboratory in Ontario, Canada.

What is the NFPA 701 Flame -Propagation Test?

It is a standardized lab evaluation that exposes heavy-duty shelter fabrics to a controlled open flame to measure how they resist catching fire. Widely recognized for fabric structures across North America, this official testing requires the material to self-extinguish within two seconds after the flame source is removed. To verify compliance, samples of our heaviest PVC 900 fabric were prepared and submitted for formal evaluation.

All 10 Samples Achieved Zero Seconds of Afterflame

NFPA 701 testing evaluates how fabric and film materials respond after controlled exposure to an open flame.

For this test, afterflame could not continue for more than two seconds after the flame source was removed. All 10 PVC 900 material samples submitted by TMG achieved:

  • 0.0 seconds of afterflame
  • 0.0 seconds of flaming dripping
  • Passing results across all 10 tested samples

This means none of the samples continued producing a visible flame after the test flame was removed.

NFPA 701 testing does not mean the material is fireproof. It confirms that the tested material met the applicable flame-propagation requirements under controlled laboratory conditions.

Heavy-Duty Shelter Solutions for Demanding Applications

TMG Dual Truss Shelters combine heavy-duty PVC covers with reinforced steel framing to create substantial covered space for agricultural, commercial and industrial use.

Common applications include:

  • Farm machinery and implement storage
  • Construction equipment protection
  • Commercial inventory and material storage
  • Fleet, trailer and seasonal vehicle parking
  • Equipment maintenance and service areas

Our Heavy Series™ shelters are designed for customers who need reinforced, large-scale storage without constructing a conventional permanent building.

For locations with more demanding winter conditions, selected Snow Series shelters are available with specified snow-load ratings and engineering documentation.

TMG also offers different installation configurations, including:

Greater Confidence for Regulated Projects

This successful test result gives customers additional documented information when material performance is an important part of their project planning.

Customers should always confirm local building, fire, engineering and permitting requirements before installation. Requirements may vary depending on the shelter model, location and intended application.

With all 10 submitted samples achieving zero seconds of afterflame, this result reinforces TMG’s commitment to providing dependable shelter solutions for demanding storage environments.

FAQ

What is a dual truss storage shelter?

A dual truss shelter uses reinforced paired steel trusses to provide greater frame rigidity for larger agricultural, commercial and industrial storage applications.

Does passing NFPA 701 mean the PVC material is fireproof?

No. NFPA 701 testing evaluates flame propagation under specified laboratory conditions. It does not mean that the material or completed shelter is fireproof.

Which TMG shelters use the tested PVC 900 material?

The tested PVC 900 material is used on selected TMG Heavy Series™ and Snow Series™ shelter models. Customers should review the individual product specifications or contact TMG to confirm the cover material used on a particular model.
