Durable Greenhouse Design: EVA Plastic Film, Insulation, and Galvanized Metal

TMG Industrial 2025 Week 1 Podcast

Hey everyone, Jacob here! Welcome to the TMG Industrial 2025 Week 1 Podcast. In this episode, I’m diving into the world of year-round growing with the TMG GH 30150 tunnel greenhouse. I’ll walk you through why this greenhouse is such a great option, from its EVA plastic film cover that balances light and protection, to its durable galvanized metal frame, and even its insulation-friendly design that helps keep the temperature just right.

Jacob: Alright. Welcome back for another deep dive. You wanted to learn more about greenhouses this time, specifically ones for year round growing.

Breanna: Yep.

Jacob: So we're taking a look at some information about the TMG GH 30150 tunnel greenhouse grow tent from TMG Industrial.

Breanna: Right.

Jacob: And this thing is pretty massive. It's, like, 4500 square feet.

Breanna: Wow.

Jacob: Almost a full basketball court.

Breanna: That's huge.

Jacob: To help break all this down, we've got our expert in sustainable growing practices here.

Breanna: Hey. Thanks for having me.

Jacob: So year round growing. It's a pretty popular topic these days.

Breanna: Yeah. It's gaining a lot of traction. You know, people are really interested in extending their growing seasons

Jacob: Right.

Breanna: And increasing food production locally.

Jacob: Makes sense.

Breanna: It's about, you know, kind of taking control over your food supply a little bit

Jacob: Absolutely. And,

Breanna: you know, just having fresh produce year round. Who doesn't love that?

Jacob: Exactly. So let's dive into this TMG model. It's got this, uh, it uses an EVA plastic film cover.

Breanna: Okay.

Jacob: Which is designed to protect from the elements but still lit in that sunlight. So how does that EVA film compare to other materials, like your glass or polycarbonate?

Breanna: That's a good question. You know, each material has its own pros and cons.

Jacob: Okay.

Breanna: EVA film is generally more affordable

Jacob: Right.

Breanna: And easier to work with than glass or polycarbonate

Jacob: Okay.

Breanna: Which makes it popular for these tunnel style greenhouses.

Jacob: Yeah.

Breanna: Um, it does a great job of letting light through

Jacob: Yeah.

Breanna: Protecting from wind and rain.

Jacob: Yeah.

Breanna: But, um, it might not be as durable in the long run

Jacob: Okay.

Breanna: As some of the other options.

Jacob: Gotcha.

Breanna: And insulation can be a bit trickier to manage.

Jacob: I see. So it's kind of a trade off there.

Breanna: Yeah. Exactly.

Jacob: Well, speaking of insulation, this model is supposed to maximize solar energy absorption and storage.

Breanna: Right.

Jacob: So how does that work exactly?

Breanna: So the design really focuses on maximizing that sunlight exposure during the day.

Jacob: Mhmm.

Breanna: And the soil itself acts as a natural heat sink absorbing and slowly releasing that energy.

Jacob: Interesting.

Breanna: And then you can also use things like, you know, thermal mass

Jacob: Yeah.

Breanna: Like water barrels or dark colored materials

Jacob: Mhmm.

Breanna: Strategically placed within the greenhouse. Yeah. And that can further enhance that warming effect.

Jacob: Wow. So it's like a passive heating system.

Breanna: Exactly.

Jacob: Now let's talk about the frame. It's made from galvanized steel

Breanna: Mhmm.

Jacob: Which is supposed to be super durable.

Breanna: Yeah. It's very strong.

Jacob: But are there any maintenance concerns there?

Breanna: Well, galvanized steel is known for its rust resistance.

Jacob: Right.

Breanna: Um, but over time, even with the galvanization, exposure to moisture can eventually lead to some corrosion.

Jacob: Okay.

Breanna: So regular inspections are a good idea, and maybe a fresh coat of rust resistant paint every few years

Jacob: Mhmm.

Breanna: Can help keep that frame in top shape.

Jacob: So it's not completely maintenance free.

Breanna: Right. Not entirely.

Jacob: But definitely a durable option.

Breanna: Oh, yeah. For sure.

Jacob: You know, looking at all this, it seems almost too easy. You just Mhmm. Set it up in here. Harvesting fresh produce year round.

Breanna: It's definitely an appealing vision, but, um, it's important to remember that year round growing, especially in colder climates, comes with its own set of challenges. You know, maintaining those optimal temperatures, light levels, humidity.

Jacob: Mhmm.

Breanna: It requires planning, maybe some supplemental lighting or heating

Jacob: I see.

Breanna: And consistent management throughout the year.

Breanna: So it's not just a set it and forget it type of thing? No. Definitely not.

Jacob: Now before we wrap up, I gotta ask about TMG Industrial. Yeah. They offer over 30 different greenhouse models.

Breanna: They do. They have a wide range of sizes and styles. They really cater to everyone from, you know, the backyard hobbyist

Jacob: Right.

Breanna: All the way up to large scale commercial operations.

Jacob: That's impressive.

Breanna: They're a big player in the market, especially in Canada and the US.

Jacob: So plenty of options to explore beyond this particular market.

Breanna: Absolutely.

Jacob: Okay. So to recap, we took a deep dive into year round growing. Look at this TMG GH 30150.

Breanna: It's a great example of how technology and design can make year round growing more accessible.

Jacob: Yeah. It's really fascinating. But here's something to think about.

Breanna: Okay.

Jacob: We talked about solar energy storage. Right. But there are other sustainable technologies out there. Like, have you ever looked into aquaponics?

Breanna: I've heard of it. It sounds interesting.

Jacob: It combines fish farming with hydroponics.

Breanna: Wow.

Jacob: Really fascinating stuff. Yeah. Definitely worth exploring.

Breanna: Yeah. I'll have to check that out.

Jacob: Well, thanks for joining us for this deep dive. Uh. And keep those questions and topics coming.

Breanna: Thanks for having me, host speaker.
